A Note From America
by Ray Hahn

Dear Members and Friends,

I had the wonderful opportunity to attend my first Cardmeet last June. It was a great time and every bit as much fun as I had wanted it to be. I hope some of you had the time to read my reminiscences in the July issue of Gongoozler.

Since 1996 I have been a member of CCCC and because of the distance between me and the Circle, it has been nearly impossible to take any active role beyond paying my subscription and reading the newsletter. Most of that has now changed. We live in a brave, new world (Sorry for using your phrase Mr. Huxley) and the Internet has expanded the communications horizon far beyond most people's imagination of just a few years ago.

I have had the good fortune to learn a great deal about the Internet and its many components, and even though I am now retired, I am still working at a self designed business that designs, creates and hosts web sites for a number of Southern New Jersey businesses, organizations and non-profits. I even have a couple international clients.

At the A.G.M. in Gloucester, someone mentioned the use of the Internet and how it would widen the scope of the CCCC both in Britain and internationally. Great idea, I thought. So I came home to America and built a website for the Canal Card Collectors Circle. It will be my contribution to the Circle!

Presently, the site is a work in progress, and it will likely take many months of working on it in my free time to achieve the goals I have set for the site. Everything presently in the site is of my choice, i.e., the colors, buttons, links, text and even the pictures. There is even an e-mail link there for you to send me your comments and recommendations. Naturally, most of the pictures are black and white because they are scans of the photos in Gongoozler. And, all that is to say, everything can be changed if the members prefer something different.

I hope that you will look at the website when it is convenient for you to do so. If you don't have a home computer, most libraries now provide the service free of change or for just a few pence. When I was in Westbury-on-Severn in June it would have been possible for me to check my e-mail at the B&B, so the Internet is not far from any of us any longer.

Hope you like what you see!
