From the President by Alan Robinson
It came as a great surprise and a tremendous honour to hear that the members of the Circle had agreed to make me the first President of the Canal Card Collectors Circle. When Ken made the announcement at the Cardmeet in York, and then presented me with a hand painted and inscribed plaque, I quickly thought back to the time twenty-one years ago when I thought "there must be more people out there who find canal postcards fascinating." I looked around the table at the people, most of whom I have known for nearly twenty-one years and thought what a friendly crowd we were. I also wondered why not more of the members attended our Cardmeets and probably one of my tasks as President might be to encourage more members to come to Gloucester next year and to Yorkshire the year after.
Thank you all for the honour and for the pleasure of knowing the Circle for twenty-one years.
My thanks to Marion Stearman for organising the Cardmeet and for taking us to so many interesting places, most of which I had not visited before. My son, in Australia, will be pleased to hear about the Melbourne Canal.
