Annual General Meeting 1999 by David Clough
This was held at the Cardmeet at York on 5th June, eleven members being present. After our Chairman, Ken Parris, had welcomed us, the secretary reported on the accounts, membership and finances.
The latter are in good shape and it was agreed to keep the subscription at the same amount of £5.00. There had been no new members for some time, but following the article in Waterways World there were four new members in May of this year.
Alan Robinson thought that by 2001 there would be good progress on the Rochdale and Calder and Hebble Navigations and he offered to arrange our Cardmeet in that area for that year. The Cardmeet for 2000 will be in Gloucester area and will be arranged by Avril Lansdell and Tony Condor. Avril was not present at the AGM due to illness. We also had apologies from Ian and Jo Wilson who could not attend due to family reasons.
A letter had been received from a member asking about Life Membership and subscriptions. It was agreed not to have this category of membership, but if any member wanted to pay subscriptions for a few years in advance, we would be happy to accept them.
Ken Parris announced that the members had decided to make Alan Robinson, who founded the Circle, our Honorary Life President, and to make me an Honorary Life Member. He presented certificates to both of us which we were very pleased to accept.
The Chairman then declared the meeting closed.
