Some
Modern Cards
sent to Gongoozler by Sheila Cooke
Sheila Cooke has sent me a selection of modern cards and, incidentally, saved my life in terms of filing this issue. The cards come with notes and some information about where they can be obtained.
Sheila is also prepared to supply an article on the Trent for a future extended issue, though I think we would need some more contributions to make that possible.
1. River Trent
The British Waterways office on the Upper Trent was until recently, beside the first lock, Trent Lock, on the Erewash Canal, but has now moved to Sawley Marina, which is now owned by British Waterways. The marina however, still sells a postcard of the former office. I am willing to take orders for members. [Editorial omission.]
Two sepia reproduction cards by Judges of Hastings showing the River Trent ©1915 and Trent Bridge ©1920, both at Nottingham, are available at a news agent and card shop in Long Eaton, Derbys. You may see the reproduction below.

I have not found them elsewhere. Again, I am willing to take orders and obtain these for any members who are interesed.
2. Shropshire Union Canal
I am sure that a lot of members will have come across the lovely cards photographed and produced by Sheila Halsall, (Visions Quality Cards) mainly of the Shropshire Union and Llangollen Canal. Sheila is willing to send a list and order form by post to any of our members. Anyone on the Internet can check her website: www.visionscards.btinternet.co.uk. Last time I spoke to her, the cards were 20p each plus postage and packaging.
(Note: Ms. Halsall's view "Tranquility" is on the cover, and "Winter" is below. I couldn't face snow on the cover of the July issue. - Ed.)

3. Coventry Canal, Streethay Wharf
This card is approximately 20 cm by 13 cm and rather thin, but it does have lines for the address and a block marked out "affix stamp here," so it counts as a postcard (even if I do not think it would survive in the system). The card is in colour and shows a painting of the wharf with a modern narrowboat - the Hamsell Mead. The card costs 95p. Streethay Wharf is a marina and boatyard which also hires out day boats for up to ten persons on the lockfree section of the Coventry Canal - between Fradley and Fazeley Junctions.
Their address is Streethay Wharf, Streethay, Lichfield, Staffs. WS13 8RJ.

4. Ashby Canal
The Ashby Boat Co. produces this card of one of their boats to promote themselves. They do day, shortbreak, and weekly hires from the wharf at Stoke Golding, Warwicks. CV13 6EY. A view of the wharf itself is included in a multi view card of the village available from Stoke Golding Post Office.
