Mumblings of the Chairman . . .
About sixteen people (I was really too busy to count them!) attended Michal Porter's lunch and card-swap on April 25th.
When we arrived at the Aylesbury Arm Basin, we gathered in the Club House for coffee. (There was also something a bit stronger available, supplied by one of our members - thank you Bob!) Then we got down to swopping and gossiping until lunch time when Michal disappeared into the club-house kitchen to reappear carrying two very large metal dishes of piping hot lasagna. (If you have not tasted Michal's cooking you haven't lived!) The members quickly got 'stuck in' to this and the salad that went with it. Most of us had two helpings. This was followed by a trifle - choice of 'tipsy' or 'teatotal' - with "21" marked out on the top in glazed cherries. Once the trifles had been eaten we thought it was all over but Michal then marched in with a cake bearing twenty-one candles, all alight! I was bullied into blowing them out, which I did with one-and-a-half puffs. A wonderful way to celebrate the Circle's twenty-first year of friendships.
In addition there were card albums to look through and both David and Michal had new cards to sell to us, as did Martin Thompson, our Modern Cards compiler. It was a really enjoyable day.
Later still we all said our 'Goodbyes' and went on our different ways. Rotten luck --- we left Michal and Christopher with a pile of dirty dishes to wash up.
But we did all enjoy it and do appreciate your hard work. "Thank you" Michal.
