Postcard collecting as a hobby is addictive and is most certainly not confined to canals. I never fail to be amazed at the subjects I hear requested at fairs. As a proof of its addiction my wife has began to collect cards. Fortunately she has not set her sights on canals but on her home town of Burnley, and she has built up quite a collection in a relatively short time. She has the advantage in that Burnley is only in Lancashire, whereas canals are in just about every county in the country and many dealers do not separate the canals but keep them in the counties. In fact I believe that there are only two counties without a canal. Any guesses as to which they are?
One of the tasks I undertake on behalf of the Inland Waterways Association is the production of its calendar. I have produced nine so far and am now seeking contributions for the 2004 edition. Several CCCC members have had their work used in past issues. Do you think you have a suitable picture? It needs to be landscape format, bright, sharp and a pretty 'chocolate box' scene. The IWA offers no payment for the picture but you will get acknowledgement and a complimentary calendar or calendars. Prints or slides are acceptable but must be capable of being printed to postcard proportions. If you think you have a suitable photo then send it to me to arrive no later than 31st January. In years to come someone may add your postcard to their collection.David Moore
