Cardmeet 2001

As many of you will know by now, Alan has found 'The Campanile Hotel' at Wakefield, about a mile out of town and a mile from junction 39 of the M1.

Over 30 people have already booked for this weekend which looks like being a great event. Please let Alan know as soon as possible if you would like to go - the hotel is big and he can book a bigger coach! He did receive an enquiry from someone anonymous, possibly living in the South - East Anglia area - please contact him if you have not received an acknowledgment - he can't reply with no name!

Alan has prepared a provisional programme for the Cardmeet Weekend, but still tentative:

Friday evening - go into Wakefield to look around canal and river locks, wharves, boatyards, barges, warehouses, etc. Meal somewhere in Wakefield.

Saturday - Calder and Hebble Navigation. Travel by coach from hotel to Dewsbury Canal Basin for coffee and AGM, look around and then travel a few miles to Shepley Bridge to see locks, drydock, boats, etc.

Saturday lunch at the Navigation next to Mirfield Boatyard. Then travel up the Navigation to see other sites and finish at Sowerby Bridge to see Tuel Lane Lock, even deeper than Bath Deep!

Coffee somewhere. Then travel back to hotel for evening meal at a cost of about £10.00.

Sunday - Huddersfield Canals. The Huddersfield Narrow is being restored finally and will be complete this year including the Tunnel and a new visitors center. Too early to make arrangements but a programme based on this and the Huddersfield Broad Canal will be interesting. A boat trip fitted in somewhere. Transport will be by coach. Finish on Sunday afternoon.

Monday - There will be a Monday programme - probably down the Aire and Calder to see the big barges.
