Cardmeet 2003 27th through 29th June at Shardlow

Friday, 27th June

Meet at the Kegworth Whitehouse Hotel near junction #24 of the M1. Accommodations have been provisionaly booked. Members should inform the hostess of their intentions to attend no later than 30 November 2002.

Saturday, 28th June

Travel by your own transport to Shardlow Heritage Center, London Road, Shardlow for the AGM. Lunch at the Center.

In the afternoon the schedule provides for a walk around the inland port of Shardlow on Trent and a Mersey Canal trip through the village on the Windemere Steam Launch. Sufficient time will be allowed to look around the Heritage Center.

In the evening a three course dinner will be available aboard the Stenson Bubble. The trip is from Stenson to Swarkestone, where the Derby Canal joins the Trent & Mersey Canal.

Sunday, 29th June

After an early breakfast at our hotel, we travel by coach to Moira Furnace Museum where we will see the fully restored blast furnace that was first built by the Earl of Moira in 1804, then on the Ashby Canal we travel by boat through the newly built lock which takes the newly restored canal under the main road.

A buffet lunch will be available at the Moon Inn at Spondon near the Derby Canal. We will be joined by members of the Derby and Sandiacre Canal Society for an illustrated introduction to the Derby Canal.

In the afternoon we will visit sites on the Derby Canal, including Borrowash for walks guided by DSCS members. Another stop is possible at Draycott or Breaston. Our return to the hotel will be about 6 PM.
