SECRETARY'S REPORT AGM 2001

Membership & Subscriptions:

This time last year at Gloucester our membership stood at 66, this year it has risen to 68. In detail three members have resigned since last year's AGM, however five new members have joined the Circle. Sixteen of our present 68 members still not have paid their Subscriptions, and I will be issuing a letter shortly chasing them.

As you know Circle Subscriptions were increased at last year's AGM from £5.00 to £7.00 to mainly to cover possible increases in the production costs and distribution of "Gongoozler." Subscriptions this year have so far brought in £364.00 in total.

The last four issues of the newsletter for July & October, 2000 and for January & April, 2001 have cost in total £266, this includes Postal Charges for distribution to members, this works out at about £66.50 per issue.

Finances:

There is £250.00 in the Circles' Girobank Account as at 12 June 2001. There are sixteen outstanding subscriptions due worth £112 which would take the account total to £362.00. There are still two issues of the "Gongoozler" due before next subscriptions which would probably account for £133.00. Also the insurance due in July, is £25.00. This would leave about £205.00 in the account, with possibly small amounts of income coming in from Card Sales and the raffle we were having today. Another large outgoing sum was £58.00 to The
Leprosy Mission who sent us 300 Canal Cards, however this money will return in time as members buy these cards.

Circle Website:

As most of you will already be aware, the Circle now has its own website, at least those of us with internet access can fully appreciate how much hard work Ray Hahn has put in during his spare time setting this up on the Circles' behalf. Ray is of course maintaining the site for us and updating the information as it changes throughout the year.

Events & Shows:

Picture Postcard Show at The Horticultural Hall in London last year had for its theme 'Transport' and for the second year running David Moore made up display boards featuring canal scenes from members canal cards.

The April 'Get Together' at London Canal Museum had a few last minute cancellations meant only ten of us attended but it was an interesting day with cards bought, some from the museum's sales desk. We also had time to look around the Museum as well.
